The Next Generation series is Generac's newest line of air-cooled home standby generators, announced in January 2025. Generac calls it the most significant platform upgrade in over a decade. It covers 10kW to 28kW and introduces a redesigned engine with hydraulic lifters, EFIC technology, the new Power Zone 200 controller, and built-in cellular connectivity as standard on every unit.
EFIC stands for Electronic Fuel & Ignition Control — an industry first. It precisely manages fuel delivery and ignition timing in real time, resulting in higher output power, better cold-start performance, improved fuel economy, and lower emissions compared to the Guardian series. Your generator runs more efficiently every time it operates.
The differences go well beyond cosmetic. Next Gen adds EFIC, hydraulic lifters (no valve adjustments, ever), the Power Zone 200 controller with 4x more diagnostic codes, built-in cellular as standard, oil level monitoring, a fuel pressure sensor, and a redesigned aluminum enclosure. The Guardian series remains a solid and proven option — Next Gen is simply the future-ready platform.

A Mobile Link Premium subscription adds maintenance reminders, detailed run history, and advanced alerts. You can monitor and control your generator from anywhere via the app.
Yes. Next Gen integrates seamlessly with ecobee by Generac smart thermostats and the Generac PWRcell battery system. Through ecobee you can view generator status on your wall thermostat. PWRcell integration lets the battery and generator work together as a complete home energy system.
